A Close Shave ~ poem

A Close Shave poem parenting blog

A Close Shave

~

These shavings tell a story,

They ‘paint’ a picture too,

They’ve given hours of creation

With paper, scissors, glue…

~

These shavings have fallen

From the sharpener in my hand,

As I turn and turn and turn

And as I watch them land…

~

These shavings are a work of art,

A work of pure genius

From the pencil crayons of our little bear,

Yes, I know I’m slightly biased!…

~

She colours lots and lots… and lots!

It’s something of a passion,

It was her favourite thing to do

‘Til loom bands came into fashion…

~

Yes these shavings tell a story

Of a masterpiece that’s unique,

We’re standing by with baited breath

For her first art gallery critique!…

“Time to spread my wings…” To my pre-school from a little bear aged nearly 5 xx

Time to spread my wings ~ from a little bear to my pre-school

Our little bear has been reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ at pre-school.

With that in mind, this little poem which I wrote for her key worker on her last day is quite appropriate, don’t you think?

Riding my bike…I’ll do it my way ~ a poem

Bike Ride blog

I’ll do it my way…

~

My friends are balancing,

With just two wheels,

I’m not sure how to

But I enjoy the squeals…

~

As I hop on my bike

With my helmet on.

Don’t blink or you’ll miss me,

I’ll be pedalling… gone!

~

I’ve been happy to walk,

To hop, skip and run,

My bike’s only now seeming

Like lots of fun!

~

My legs get tired,

They go round and round,

It’s hard work to steer

Over uneven ground.

~

So, today I’ll cycle

With three wheels not two,

But tomorrow I might

Want to walk with you!

“Dear Tooth Fairy” ~ a letter from a little bear aged 4

Dear Tooth Fairy A letter from a little bear aged 4

Dear Tooth Fairy (the one with the sparkly wings…)

~

Something happened today

That felt like a tickle,

I was eating my tea

And my tooth had a wiggle…

~

With a toothy peg dance,

It was saying “hello”,

It whispered to me,

“It’s nearly time to go!”

~

It wiggled again…

Time to go where?

To another home?

To another little bear?

~

I don’t mind, not really

But we’ve been friends for a while,

We’ve been through weaning and purees,

My friend’s helped me to smile…

~

Mummy says I get new ones,

That I’m growing up big and strong,

But that doesn’t solve the problem,

What happens when I’ve done wrong?

~

Will my smile still be beautiful?

Will they still love me so?

Will my smile still work wonders?

Tell me tooth fairy, do you know?

~

When my tooth does fall out,

It will be under my pillow,

With its shoes and its coat on,

Waving and waiting to go.

‘Frozen’ – don’t be left out in the cold…

Frozen out in the cold poem

You might have heard of it…

If not, where you have been?

It’s the animated story

That everybody’s seen…

~

It’s an obsession, a possession,

You only need to see it twice

And before you know it the songs

Are in your head, so this is my advice…

~

Embrace it, love it, sing along,

At the top of your voice,

In the car, in the shower,

Or at the shop… you’re spoilt for choice!

~

If you don’t embrace it with arms open

It’ll get you anyway…

You’ll be singing the songs in your sleep

At the end of the day.

~

Still not sure, got reservations?

Don’t be left out in the cold!

“Let it go”, get into ‘Frozen’,

Get ready, be brave, be bold!…

By Mummy Bear

~

Coming soon… ‘Frozen’: The Abridged Version!
Don’t miss it!

This adventure they call ‘parenthood’… a poem

the theme game adventure parenthood

This adventure, this journey

They call ‘parenthood’,

Began with 2 lines on a test,

Mouths wide open we stood…

~

…In disbelief, in awe,

In excitement, in glee,

A mummy and daddy to

a new life we would be.

~

The tears and tantrums would come,

All this and much more,

And that’s just me and hubby

Throwing ourselves on the floor…

~

It’s a privileged position to nurture a baby,

To guide them, to love them,

Unconditionally,

No ‘maybe’.

~

The best adventure you’ll have

Of that there’s no doubt.

There’s no love quite like it,

As we have found out…

As one chapter closes, another one begins…

the theme game beginnings school chapters poem rhyme

Chapters

I love that our bear has

A natural love of books,

And her little place for reading them is

Her bookcase, her nook.

~

Since newborn we’ve read to her,

We’ve got through books galore.

As soon as she could speak she said,

“Mummy, Daddy, I want more!”

~

Then she ‘graduated’ to ‘proper’ books,

With less pictures and more words.

It’s lovely until bedtime…

“I want the whole book!”, can be heard!

~

From the beginning, “Once upon a time…”

Skip some pages, let’s pretend

We’ve read the middle,

Skim read to “The End”!

~

But I love reading with our bear,

And she loves reading too.

With the school ‘chapter’ starting very soon

I’m sure she’ll take the cue…

~

To keep reading, writing, learning,

To seize the 3 R’s with zest.

The beginning, middle, now the end of

Pre-school… ‘big’ school’s coming next!

‘A perfect messy place’

the perfect messy place mummy bears blog

A perfect messy place

“Let’s make something”,

Said our bear to me,

As she ran out on

The grass with glee.

~

Her little toes,

Her little feet,

The sun was out,

And what a treat!

~

From our treasure hunt,

We had some ‘loot’

We’d had fun,

We’d had a hoot!

~

Making in the garden…

A perfect messy place;

A moment to treasure,

At a leisurely pace.

~

With paper, glue,

Sparkles, glitter,

Butterflies fluttered,

Birds went twitter.

~

What a lovely moment,

What a lovely day,

But the best bit?

Hardly any tidying away!
