Enter(pris)ing the rainbow loom craze! (How to make a rainbow loom bracelet)

(Above: our bear concentrating on making a loom bracelet!  It’s worth pointing out that we had been to a local Fun Day and she decided that she didn’t want her face painting but a butterfly on her hand instead…)

This week our little bear has been making rainbow loom bracelets.  You know those multi-coloured pieces of elastic?  You pop them on a loom, you hook over and hook over again.  Hey presto, a rainbow loom bracelet!

Her cousin showed her how to make a bracelet and kindly gave our bear some supplies to start her off.  Then Grandma kindly bought our bear a bracelet making kit, including loom!  Our bear was over the loom moon!

So, the bracelet making began in earnest.  She announced that she wanted to give bracelets to a few of her pre-school friends, some of her childminder friends and some to her playgroup friends from ‘back in the day’.

“They’re going to be presents,” she said.

(Above: Our bear talks you through how to make a loom bracelet)

When I told our bear that my friend at work would like her to make one for some pennies, our bear was very proud… and this made her think.

Her enterprising side kicked in…

She said she would make one for my work friend for 3p, one for me for 3p and anyone else who wanted one could give her 3p for one.

“Then I can buy more elastics!” she said.

…Rainbow loom bracelet anyone?!

We’ve got quite a few!…

My WordoftheWeek has simply got to be ‘enterprising’.

‘Frozen’ – the abridged version…the sequel

While I was pottering around, our little bear was pottering around too.

“Mummy, come and look at what I’ve built!” she shouted proudly.

“Oh wow! Aren’t you clever?! You’ve built some stairs.  Well done!”

To which our bear said, “they’re Elsa’s stairs in ‘Frozen’!”

The End

~

We hope you enjoyed the abridged version – the sequel.  You can read ‘Frozen’ – the abridged version here.

And true to our household’s current obsession with ‘Frozen’, here is a little poem that I posted recently on my blog called

‘Frozen’ – don’t be left out in the cold!

‘Frozen’ – the abridged version…

frozen the abridged version

“Mummy, I want to write a story about ‘Frozen’ “

And here it is…

Frozen abridged blog

Our little bear wrote it all by herself with prompting for how to spell the words.

Here is the translation!…

“Once upon a time [in] Arundel, Crystal gives Sven a carrot [and] a little snowman.”

There we have a 4 1/2 year old’s abridged version of ‘Frozen’!

Short but sweet and no songs in sight!

The End.

True to our household’s current obsession with ‘Frozen’, here is a little poem that I posted recently on my blog called
‘Frozen’ – don’t be left out in the cold!

I can totally relate to this post from Emma aka brummymummyof2 about life with a pre-schooler beginning to get ‘real’ and with it the raw, real emotions.

Here is a lovely post about friendships that just ‘click’ from Mummy Tries.

And finally along the same lines, a heart-warming post about soulmates from Miss Fanny P.

There  you have it then – I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I did 🙂

Rules are meant to be broken ~ let’s can the “can’t”

the prompt rules

You can’t do this.

You can’t do that.

You can’t wear this.

You can’t wear that.

You can’t say this.

You can’t say that.

“Can’t” is a word which I don’t like to hear.  I don’t like to hear it as a person and I certainly don’t like to hear it as a mum.

We want our children to achieve their full potential, right?  Well then, let’s stop telling them “can’t”.

Let’s start telling them “can”.

Our little ones’ brains soak up affirmation, praise and love like a sponge.  It’s a cliche but it’s true.

Our little ones’ brains also soak up negativity as I’ve highlighted in post on my Virtually All Sorts blog and they will usually believe us if we tell them they can’t do something.

Let’s believe in our children and believe that they “can”.  Let’s throw the “can’t” into the proverbial can that is the bin.  The ‘has been’.

What do you think?

Thanks to Sara at MumTurnedMom for giving us this week’s prompt: “Rules are meant to be broken”

‘Frozen’ – don’t be left out in the cold…

Frozen out in the cold poem

You might have heard of it…

If not, where you have been?

It’s the animated story

That everybody’s seen…

~

It’s an obsession, a possession,

You only need to see it twice

And before you know it the songs

Are in your head, so this is my advice…

~

Embrace it, love it, sing along,

At the top of your voice,

In the car, in the shower,

Or at the shop… you’re spoilt for choice!

~

If you don’t embrace it with arms open

It’ll get you anyway…

You’ll be singing the songs in your sleep

At the end of the day.

~

Still not sure, got reservations?

Don’t be left out in the cold!

“Let it go”, get into ‘Frozen’,

Get ready, be brave, be bold!…

By Mummy Bear

Coming soon… ‘Frozen’: The Abridged Version!
Don’t miss it!

True love through a little girl’s eyes… or is Walt Disney’s?!

The theme game love

It’s simple, this crazy little thing called love.

A princess finds ‘true love’ in her prince charming.

And they all live happily ever after.

The End.

Well, it must be right because Walt Disney said so!…

Our little bear loves to colour and this is one of her latest offerings.

A love heart of course!

~

I’m joining in with The Reading Residence and Redpeffer’s The Theme Game with this week’s them of ‘love.

Come and join in!

Mummy Bear’s Shout Out 10

mummy bears shout blog 4 3

Welcome to Mummy Bear’s Shout Out 10.  Here I will share my favourite parenting blog posts of the last week or so in the form of links to the relevant blogs.  Feel free to comment, perhaps with a link to your favourite blog post of the week too!

This poem about motherhood via Poetreecreations is very powerful in my opinion.  It’s one that has a rhythm which pulls you along, while you’re nodding your head in agreement and getting swept away with the emotion.

This post ‘I wish I had more time’ from Mumma G is fantastic.  Read it!

And you know the saying that children’s brains are like sponges?  This from Suzanne Zeedyk reinforces my belief that our brains soak up more information than we realise.  I blogged about it in a similar vein myself on my Virtually All Sorts blog not so long ago.

There  you have it then – I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I did 🙂
