Is the innocence intact?

The other day I had a ‘moment’, I paused for thought,

My little one, her finger she had caught.

Hand in a fist, she showed me, middle finger erect.

I turned to look and a poker face I kept.

The double meaning of this finger, she had not a clue,

May it stay that way for at least a year or two.

But as she travels through life, even in her early years,

As she overcomes and realises her hopes and her fears,

She will come across real life, new people she will meet,

And she will learn to stand on her own two feet.

She will be encouraged to think , to make up her own mind,

To learn form experience, to be thoughtful and kind.

She will learn by example to give where she can,

To grab life with both hands, or at least that’s the ‘plan’.

We learn as we grow, it’s part of life, it’s a fact,

But for as long as we can, let’s keep the innocence in tact.
